Klaxons
I've been giving some artists a second try lately. You know, artists that you've known about and probably even have some songs by them, but you didn't like it on the first hear so you never listened to them again?
Well I've been giving some of them a second listen and turns out they're fantastic.
I will call this plan "Be Kind, Rewind."*
I even liked them enough to upload them for you guys. Why? In the words of my 3-year-old cousin Zoe, because "I NICE."
Download them while they're hot! Limited time offer of 7 days.
And of course, these mp3s are for sampling purposes only. If you like it, buy the album. Thanks RIAA!

Willie Nelson's Country Peach Cobbler
On a whim, I bought this new flavor at Safeway. The label says "Peach Ice Cream with Cinnamon-Sugar Shortbread Pieces." Now, I'm not usually a fan of STUFF in my ice cream. I don't need swirls of stuff and bits of crunchiness or anything. Also, I'm a Haagen-Dazs girl.
Ok, I know Ben & Jerry's is known for having lots of crap mixed in their ice cream. That is the essence of Ben & Jerry's. Why even buy Ben & Jerry's if you DON'T like crap in your ice cream?
Because I love ice cream and I always think, "maybe I'll like it this time." The only flavor that I've consistently liked and have re-bought was Cherry Garcia. Here are some flavors that I've tried. While they were good (I mean, I still ate the whole container), but I probably wouldn't re-buy:
- Dublin Mudslide: Irish Cream Liqueur Ice Cream with Chocolate, Chocolate Chip Cookies and a Coffee Fudge Swirl
- Coffee Heath Bar Crunch: Coffee Ice Cream with Chunks of HEATH® Bar Crunch (made with Fair Trade Certified™ coffee)
- Turtle Soup: Vanilla ice cream with fudge & caramel cashews & a caramel swirl
- Vermonty Python: Coffee liqueur ice cream with a chocolate cookie crumb swirl & fudge cows
- Oatmeal Cookie Chunk: Sweet Cream Cinnamon Ice Cream with Chunks of Oatmeal Cookies & Fudge
But this peach thing seemed pretty safe. The only thing mixed in would be shortbread....and shortbread is delicious.
The verdict?
YUM!!! Good job, Willie Nelson! I will place you among the ranks of Cherry Garcia!
The peach ice cream was good, not too sweet. The shortbread pieces were small but good. Crumbly and not too salty. The cinnamon flavor was not overpowering. There was actually also a peach swirl in the icecream - almost like apricot jam with some peach bits. Pretty good!
The bf even said that he would add this to one of his "favorite flavors" list. Big words, my friend. I don't know if I would go that far, but it was pretty delicious.

Jose Gonzalez - Hand on Your Heart
My current song obsession is Jose Gonzalez's cover of Hand on Your Heart, originally by Kylie Minogue.
I was like eh the first time I heard it. I'm not particularly fond on folksy music. But after a few more listens, I started liking it more and more. His voice and the lyrics are just so so pretty.
I wasn't crazy about his cover of The Knife's Heartbeats. The original is just too good. However, dare I say - I like his version of Hand on Your Heart better than Kylie's version? I know! And I LOVE me some Kylie! She's one of my favorite ladies, but her version is a little TOO 80's for me. It scares me kind of.

This song is a single, so it's not on his Veneer album.

I'm a coffee connoisseur. Self-proclaimed, that is. (Also, I totally spelled "connoisseur" right on the first try and I'm really proud of myself!)
Ok, so I don't really know all that much about the "art" or "science" of coffee, but I do drink coffee on a daily basis and I know what I like and I know what I don't like.
Barefoot Coffee - I like. A lot.
I used to be pro-Seattle's Best - which, in its own right, is also very good. MUCH MUCH better than Starbucks, which I actually kind of hate. Tastes like burning!
They have lots of specialty coffee drinks that incorporate condensed milk, coconut milk, 5 types of chocolate, and even caramelized sugar where they use a TORCH. With FIRE.
Barefoot coffee, how I love thee. Let me count the ways.
- Smooth and rich taste (never burnt, never sour)
- The in-store roasting
- The cute pictures they draw in the foam on top of your latte
- The little almond biscuit they give you when you have a drink in-store
- The "Cubano"
- The "Vietnamese Coffee"
- The "Voo Doo"
- The superfluous amount of outlets
- The counter w/ stools (I really like sitting on stools at counters)
- The condiment station (containers of liquid sugar, molasses, caramel, turbinado sugar, brown sugar, honey)
- Buy 10 drinks, get 1 free
But best of all - it is truly a GOOD cup of coffee.
Unfortunately, you can only have it if you live in the South Bay.
